14 Oct AiroAV Reports Alfred-Almond contracts for labor relations services – News…
ALMOND — Alfred-Almond board members last week approved the addition of cost-saving labor relations services for the 2019-20 school year.
Total pro-rated cost for the year will be $15,294, most of which is aidable, according to the board-approved resolution. The New York State Education Department (SED) reimburses those services at almost 85 percent, according to department regulations. That means that every dollar spent on labor relations will be reimbursed a total of almost 85 cents.
Board President Earl Pierce noted at the board work session Oct. 1 that approximately 15 cents per hour is less than the hourly rate of $300 to $400 that law firms frequently charge school districts in the state.
In another matter, business teacher Kelly Valentine said at the board meeting the course curriculum emphasizes communications and professionalism. Pierce said every student should be encouraged to take those and other business courses as part of career-ready preparation for post-high school, including business, college and the military.
The board approved business manager Tracy Condie opening a district credit card with Community Bank for purchases in which a traditional purchase order is not accepted.
At the meeting, accounting firm Buffamonte Whipple Buttafaro said Alfred-Almond earned a clean audit report, the highest possible achievement level in accounting.
School Superintendent Tracie Preston noted that Oct. 21-25 is School Board Recognition Week. She said Alfred-Almond board members bring a total of 75 years of school board experience to the district.
